Agape Weekend Power Packs

Agape Partners with St. Marys City Schools

Agape and St. Marys City Schools recognize the importance of ensuring that students have access to food at home.  During the spring of 2019, St. Marys Middle School piloted the Weekend Power Pack Program.  Agape provided shopping bags filled with shelf-stable food for students experiencing food insecurity to take home each weekend.  These Weekend Power Packs were tucked into student lockers on Thursday evenings for students to take home on Friday.

Weekend Power Packs Available in All Buildings

The Weekend Power Pack Program was expanded to all four buildings for the 2019-2020 school year.  Each building has a system for discretely distributing the Weekend Power Packs on Fridays.  Students are usually referred for the program by staff members, but referrals can come from anyone- including students.

Childhood Hunger in Auglaize County

Food insecurity impacts children across America... including children living right here in Auglaize County.   According to Feeding America, approximately 17% of children under the age of 18 in Auglaize County experience food insecurity.   39% of these children do not qualify for support from federal nutritional programs.

Food Insecurity

Food insecurity occurs when a family is unable to provide enough food for every family member to lead an active, healthy life. Unexpected situations, such as missed work due to an illness or an unexpected car repair bill, can leave families struggling to choose between paying bills and buying food.
