Asbestos Reinspection Notification

ANNUAL ASBESTOS NOTIFICATION
ST. MARYS CITY SCHOOL DISTRICT

In compliance with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Asbestos Hazard Emergency Response Act (AHERA), we are required annually to inform all parents, teachers, and staff as to the availability of our asbestos management plan.

In April 2007, we completed the required 3-year asbestos reinspection of our school facilities This AHERA 3-year inspection was completed by Allied Environmental Services, Inc., 1867 South Dixie Highway, Lima, Ohio, 45804. The inspection was conducted on April 9, 2007 by Mr. Steven D. Carr. Mr. Carr maintains a current Ohio Department of Health Asbestos Hazard Evaluation Specialist Certification, #31874. Each homogeneous area of known asbestos containing material was inspected and assessed for damage and assigned an appropriate repair/removal response action. Materials requiring a response action have been ranked by priority as follows:

Priority #1 - Isolate the area and restrict access. Remove as soon as possible based upon degree of damage and likelihood of disturbance.

Priority #2 - Repair or remove as soon as possible.

Priority #3 - Repair or remove when convenient. Priority #3 damage should be performed last if all repairs cannot be done immediately.

The April 2007 AHERA inspection found no Priority #1 issues. Under Priority #2, the pipe insulation in the L1 and L2 computer labs at MHS were to be encapsulated at the ends of the exposed pipes. This work has been completed as per the recommendation. There were no Priority #3 issues noted in the report.

The next scheduled reinspection will be July, 2010.

Our asbestos management plan is on file at the District Service Center. All interested parties are welcome to view the management plan by contacting the office of the Business Manager at 419-394-7278.
