Sophomore Information

Sophomore year - a time of maturity, responsibility and self-growth. This is the year you receive your driver's license, become employed outside of your family home, and start really thinking about what you want to do with your life. Pay attention to all the information that is given to you - PLAN results, Tri Star presentation, counselors' advice - these are all sources of information that will help you in your determination of whether you want to attend college, tech schools, military, or something else. These information sources are very personal in that they are sources that take you into consideration - your abilities, your interests, your dreams and your goals.

This year is a time of many changes.  You earn your driver’s license, some of you may step up to Varsity sports, you may get a more demanding part time job, and more responsibility might be given to you at home.  You need to know that with all the added activity and pressure, you are growing and maturing socially and emotionally.  As you go through your classes this year, pay attention to the topics that interest you, the areas of study that you get excited about, as well as the type of activity that makes you feel alive.  These are all clues for you to help begin discovering what type of career you would be best suited for, as well as what type of work would make you most happy.  Pay attention, clue into your behavior, and start listing those types of activities and studies that you enjoy to help narrow down the possibilities for your future career.

In this year of change, too, you will find, as your interests and activities become more involved, that some of your social contacts may change.  Do not forget who your friends are.  Friends are people who care for you unconditionally.  So, even though that person who knows you better than anyone else is not in the same sport or club, stay close to that person, because having a true friend is very important to each and every one of us.  So, have a great year, learn plenty about yourselves and in your classes, and watch yourselves grow and mature as this year continues.  You will be amazed at how you have changed this coming May!

Promise yourself to be so strong that nothing can disturb your peace of mind.  To talk health, happiness and prosperity to every person you meet.  To make all your friends feel that there is something really special  inside them.  To look at the sunny side of everything and make your optimism come true.  To think only of the best, to work only for the best and expect only the best.  To be just as enthusiastic about the success of others as you are about your own.  To forget the mistakes of the past and press on to the great achievements of the future.  To wear a cheerful countenance at all times and give every living creature you meet a smile.  To give so much time to the improvement of yourself that you have no time to criticize others.  To be too large for worry, too noble for anger, too strong for fear and too happy to permit the presence of trouble.
